Essex Diner Reviews

food was no cap bussin bussin straight girl or boy dinner, cheese pull was lowkey good. Service was mad kind like I ain't even like that tea but they swapped it no charge. Ambiance was good bc they had it like a diner and yeah

Small place but really good food at a reasonable price. Service can be a bit hectic at times but they work hard to get things right. Other customers that have been coming here for a long time say everything on the menu is worth trying. I'm eyeing the Smith Island cake in the dessert case some day soon!

Had a pretty great breakfast here, with my mom and boyfriend. It's bigger than I expected inside, like Hermione's tent. Our server was spectacular. Friendly and always knew just the right time to come check on us, refill coffee, etc. Sometimes a great server can make all the difference between a mediocre dining experience and an unforgettable one. The diner was decorated for Christmas, too, which also helped to improve the morning. My mom had a Bowl: 3 Scrambled eggs W/ Meat (sausage) & Gravy. My mom loves eggs and she certainly put a hurting on this bowl. I was surprised by how much she actually ate. It seemed bottomless. I had a very satisfying fried egg, American cheese, and scrapple sandwich on white toast with ketchup. I'd been craving scrapple for a while, so I was delighted to see it on the menu. My boyfriend also had an egg sandwich. He's not a fan of scrapple though, so I think he had bacon. But the big surprise was his steak and eggs. That steak was incredible! So tender, cooked perfectly, and seasoned well. Just wow! An all-around wonderful breakfast. Would recommend.

This diner has a great location, just off Eastern Blvd. A neighbor raved about the crab melt, and WOW, she was right. This came with coleslaw and piping hot French fries. A more than generous portion. The base was 2 slices of toasted, seeded rye bread, on top was Imperial style crab cakes, each about the size of a woman's fist, and lump crabmeat. This is the place to come for just that, at a very reasonable $15. We took half of our order home. The menu is just busy enough and not a challenge to the kitchen. It is easy to drive right past the diner. It could stand some updating. But as the saying goes... you can't judge a book by the cover. Great food.

Love the essex diner. Great service great food. Fun times all around. Ashley, Michelle s, and the rest of the young ladies are amazing.

Essex Diner good quality food. Prices are very good. For seniors, there is a senior's menu that offers about 10 different selections with excellent prices! And the senior menu includes a cup of soup and a venerate! There are also different dinner specials a different one for each day of the week that also include a cup of soup! This gives you an excellent variety as the menu "never gets stale"!My wife and I personally eat there 3to 5 times a week.Staff is excellent. And the new owner personally at times greets you and stops by your table. He wants you completely happy! I very, VERY much recommend the Essex Diner!

Stopped by on a rainy Tuesday for a dinner before my meeting. Walked in, and was greeted as if I was an old friend, even though I'd never been here before. After choosing a seat, I picked up the menu to decide. The waitress was there asking for my drink order already!!! I took a minute, and ordered the French Dip sandwich with fries. The food came out with scarcely a wait, and was cooked just right. And it was the best sandwich I've had all week!!! Seasoned perfectly, and served with a cup of steaming Au Jus. The fries were crispy on the outside, just how I like them. The wood paneling and Formica tabletops harken to a simpler time, as does the menu. While well worn, everything is obviously clean and well cared for by an owner and management team that really cares. The prices are reasonable, considering the amount of food you get. The staff is friendly and funny, with some folks trading jokes with the local regulars. The Essex feels like the diners of old, and I wish there were more like these still around. I can't wait to see how breakfast is after this great dinner!
